Why Travel Nursing
Are you a nurse? Do you like to travel? If you answered yes to both of those questions, then travel nursing may be the career option for you.
What is travel nursing? The concept began in the 1980′s as a response to nursing shortages. These shortages were occurring because of busy seasons, nurses on maternity leave, and nurses who were continuing their education. Since the demand for nurses is higher than the amount of nurses available, travel nursing has continued to grow since the 1980′s.
Travel nursing assignments can last from 8 to 52 weeks. The majority of the assignments last about 13 weeks. However, with a new agency known as NurseChoice, assignments can be as short as 4 weeks. This can be good for the new person who wants to see if travel nursing is right for them.
When your assignment is completed you have several options. These options include choosing a new assignment, extending your assignment, or taking a permanent position that was your assignment. The benefit to the assignment is that if you do not like where you are, you can choose to go somewhere else. Also, if you just want a change in scenery, then you can take a new assignment.
The most important choice you will make regarding travel nursing is your agency. Most agencies require that you have at least one year experience in your field and preferably in a hospital setting. The agency that you partner with will determine the attention, service, respect, and benefits that you receive.
When choosing a travel nursing agency, you will want to keep several things in mind. First, you will want to make sure that the agency is suited to what you want. Then, you will want to choose an agency that has years of experience because those are the ones that most health care facilities turn to. Next, you want to avoid agencies that try to force you to take assignments that you are not interested in because you want to make sure that both your personal and professional goals are met. In addition, you want to look for companies who offer continuing education, 24 hour clinical support, and loyalty programs. Finally, you may want to talk to others who are in travel nursing to see what agencies they recommend.
After you choose a travel nursing agency, there are several additional steps that an individual needs to take. These steps are to complete an application and chat with a recruiter. Then, you will want to choose an assignment and do a phone interview with the facility. Finally, you will want to accept your assignment.
After accepting your assignment, the fun begins. You will be ready for a whole new world of experiences. You will develop new friendships and your career as a nurse will be enhanced.
