Buying a house in the Kona district is expensive. The most affordable place to buy a home in the islands right now is on the Hilo side of the Big Island…and even that is high compared to much of the mainland U.S. You might want to check out (that has three i’s in the middle) and search for the area you’re interested in.

It depends on where exactly in Kona you’re looking to live. Housing is about the same in Kona as it is on Oahu for median homes but keep in mind that all goods will be more expensive on the outer islands (as everything comes into port in Honolulu and must be transfered off to other carriers to their final destinations).
Hope that helps…..happy moving!

Kona is a big place. In general, housing on Oahu (median price is $600,000) is more than Kona, but not by much. (And both places cost way more than in Arizona.
But the housing situation, like in Arizona, like in Oahu, is good for buyers in Kona. I don’t think it would be hard for you to find a home between $400,000 to $500,000 which has a decent size and a close proximity to town.
(Full disclosure, I work for a developer on the Big Island). I know of a certain developer in Kona that are helping their buyers get good financing. I’m going to assume that big real estate developers have the same deal. So, even though the prices are more than in Arizona, finding a house that comes with a good mortgage program will lessen the blow.
If you are trying to find a home under $400,000 in Kona (there are many homes outside of Kona under $400,000), it would have to be a condo.
