I have a 18 inch kona fire mountain bike and i was wondering if i could get a new frame on it?

first-or-last asked:

Its a 2008 kona fire mountain 18 inch. I don’t know if it has to be the same size or if i could get a 17 inch. I also don’t know if have to get the same brand or if i could get a different brand. Also is there any thing else that i need to know?

Yep, you can switch frames if you want to. Depending on what frame you choose, you may have an easy switch-over, or you may need to swap several parts. Look for one that is the same style as what you have (xc, for example). You’re more likely to have a smooth transition if you do it that way.

Up front, the seatpost is the most likely thing that you’ll need to change unless the new frame just happens to have the same size. Less commonly, you may need to change the front derailleur (or use clamp adaptors), the headset, the bottom bracket, and possibly the fork. The fork depends on whether or not you have enough length on your old steerer tube to match up with the new frame’s head tube length and your preferred stem setup (spacers, etc). You’ll more than likely need new brake and gear cable housing, too, but not always.

If you narrow down your choices, post up again and we might be able to give you some more specific details. Hope this helps some. :o)
